Liberty Harbor RV Park Jersey City and New York City

Although we had read plenty of good reviews to go along with the typical negative, we were still hesitant about visiting New York City via RV. Well we did decide to check in to the electric/water parking lot of a park known as the Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City.

Living and Working as New Englanders – Sort of

After Maine, Robin had a couple of weeks of work in the Boston area so we set up first at the Minute Man campground outside of Boston in Littleton. This was an above average campground that we primarily experienced from our office windows. The wooded campground provided good shade from some hot days and overall we enjoyed our week and the park.

Summer in the great outdoors-Maine and Acadia National Park

As we wrote this on Labor Day, which is the unofficial end of summer for most folks, we found time for a little reflection on our summer in the Northeast.  Our photos reminded us of how fun it was to explore during the summer!  Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island provided many wonderful opportunities to be out and about in nature, once we figured out how to avoid the summer crowds.

We needed a good paddlin’

It seems like we are constantly figuring out new things about ourselves as we explore this beautiful country. One of the things we have learned recently is how much we enjoy kayaking/canoeing together and with friends.
We have always known that it is something we enjoy but after having 3 outings in the last month, we have realized how much we enjoy it.kayak4

It’s “Lobstah” Time in Bah Hahbah

lobster6  When we sold our house and moved on the road, one thing that many of our friends and family worried about was that we would get lonely and miss having a community to call our own.  Not only has that been proven wrong, but our community keeps getting larger and larger.  Our time so far here in Maine has allowed us to form new friendships with some wonderful people.  Betsy and Nancy (RV-A-GOGO) are camp hosting here in Bar Harbor this summer and are helping us make the most of our month here.  Just a few nights ago, they hosted a lobster cookout for us and for Amanda and Tim (Watsons Wander).  We had never met Betsy and Nancy in person and we had only met Amanda and Tim once for a few hours at a noisy bar in Colorado, and already we feel like we have known them for years.

Camping our Way to Maine

We had been considering what to do next and we had two options.  One, stay in the Midwest near family for the summer and Robin could fly to Boston for work for 2 weeks in August.  Two, venture onward and upward to explore New England for the summer and stay until after Robin’s workshops end.   The weather in Ohio in June helped us make our decision and from Alum Creek we headed out northwest toward Cleveland. We did a couple of nights in a Cleveland suburb and did a great barbeque with some friends in the area for the 4th.  That would be the last of city life for us for a while. Continue reading

Up a Creek…

After making it through the very rainy month of June in Ohio, we spent the first day of July kayaking in Alum Creek just north of Columbus with wonderful friends Pat and Denny.

Testing out the new phone app

Now that we are going to do shorter, more real time blogging I think I should get a phone app.  Hope it is easier than the computer. Update: Just published and updated this from my phone! Hooray!

Wrapping up Season II: New Mexico and Back to Colorado

OK, so we have again fallen behind on our tales and are once again rethinking the format. After a couple of years we think it is time we abandon the chronological capturing of sequential stops on our journey in favor of a more informal “blog as we feel like it” type of format. Regardless I know we want the blog to be real time and this is not.

I hate to not finish things we start and since I have a whole bunch of pictures from New Mexico, our season two bookend will be a photojournal of the Spring end of our ventures after leaving Arizona. After a bunch of time in RV parks in the west coast all winter we were thrilled to be back in the state of New Mexico. This time we tried out a State Park called Elephant Butte out in the middle of nowhere. But then again, in the middle of nowhere with 50 amps and water is just where you want to be sometimes.

The Magic Desert Dog Walk – Tucson, Arizona

After leaving our blissful night of boondocking in Quartzite, we somewhat begrudgingly headed to our next reservation site at the Desert Trails RV Park in Tucson. We had attempted to get into the nearby state parks but once again, we were not quite set up for the no hookup sites available with short notice. This was another age restricted park that, for the first time, did not require special permission for us.
